| Waste management firms team up to fund WEEE recycling TV campaign
It has been announced that seven of the UK’s most prominent WEEE waste management firms and producer compliance schemes are to join forces with the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) to fund a new TV campaign to raise awareness of WEEE recycling. The plans are being coordinated by Justin Greenaway, the contracts manager for WEEE reprocessor SWEEEP/Kuusakoski. Mr Greenaway has in the past expressed his frustration that the government isn’t doing enough to raise awareness amongst the general public of the importance of WEEE recycling, so he has decided to set up his own TV campaign.Joining him are Overton Recycling, W&S Recycling and a number of compliance schemes: • Repic • Valpak • ERP • Wastepack/Electrolink • DHL Each of these companies and schemes is expected to contribute £4,000 to fund the awareness project. The focus of the TV campaign will be on small WEEE (toasters, kettles etc) recycling, in order to boost currently low recycling rates for these items. General Manager at ERP, Scott Butler, had this to say: "We are supporting this ad to make it easier for people to find out where they can take their small electricals for recycling. Small waste electricals can too easily end up in the bin, and we need to encourage people to take advantage of the opportunities they have to stop this happening in the future," |
