www.ft.comCase Study > The Financial Times The FT is in the pink with ACM The Problem
Even though the Financial Times has a firm commitment to recycling, it was difficult to see if there was any real 'room' for improvement. The positioning of the FT building along with a nearby low level bridge denied any possible access for the implementation of a compactor to help with the recycling effort. The SolutionACM designed and developed a special cut-down version of a 24 SEN portable compactor. This new adaptation enabled a compactor to be positioned on site and has become an effective part of the recycling process. The compactor not only utilises state-of-the-art disposal technology, it also has a 24 cbm capacity, can be filled to a height of up to 1420 mm and can complete a cycle in just 38 seconds. This gave the Financial Times a time saving compaction advantage which inevitably led to a sound financial saving within the whole waste management programme. The adapted 24 SEN also included a leakproof container for cleanliness and pest control and is fully arc welded for longevity and liquid retention. By colour co-ordinating the compactor to the corporate pink of the actual publication, the FT is now seen as an active and responsible recycling company. ACM also provided the FT with a twin-chamber ACM 400 baler. This machine processes both card and paper via one chamber and plastic in the other. In short these products have provided the FT with its own in-house automated recycling centre. ACM not only handles all the maintenance and training for key personnel, it also organises all waste collections including glass. Its partnership approach and customer commitment has also been of benefit to the FT having helped in the recycling process of electrical equipment to charitable organisations. |
