The cruise liner M V Artemis, like any other ship, is always restricted with below deck storage space so large amounts of cardboard and plastic waste can pose considerable problems. Health and safety is just one of the issues and crew members need protecting against hazardous obstructions which could lead to a slip, trip or fall. The SolutionHaving vast experience in supplying waste and recycling solutions to the hotel industry ACM found it easy to help P&O with their needs The supply of an onboard baler has helped to ensure the ship’s waste area is clean, tidy and clutter free. It has also greatly helped in the speed of off-loading the waste by compacting the cardboard and plastic into easily removable bales. Client CommentsScott Moore Carnival UK, Environmental Superintendent: “The baler has made a real difference to waste management onboard the M.V Artemis. We have very high volumes of both cardboard and plastic waste but this is now stored efficiently until it can be offloaded when the ship returns to port. We have also recently introduced a recycling initiative for plastics which the installation of the baler has helped to make possible. We are also looking at introducing a similar initiative for cardboard.” |
