Frequently Asked Questions

ACM Chief Executive, Andy Jacobs, answers some of the most frequently asked questions

Q What services do you offer?

A ACM can offer a full range of waste services covering general waste, recyclables, chemical or special waste, compactors, balers, servicing, repairs etc. We can also offer a free waste audit to identify possible cost savings. This is all done via our Complete Care Programme which is a unique, highly effective single vendor package designed to optimise recycling, reduce landfill with a cost saving that is guaranteed. Check out the Complete Care Programme or contact us at green@acmplc.com for more information.

Q Are there any complications with handling and safety with the compactors?

A No. Our compactors are in use with a wide variety of different industries including hospitals, schools and supermarket chains such as Safeway where safety is paramount. All our equipment is fully CE approved, full Health and Safety training is provided and certificates of training are issued to all customers.

Q We don't recycle due to a lack of space on our site, what can ACM offer as a solution?

A Recycling doesn't have to take up a large amount of room and ACM can offer regular collections and a range of compact balers if space is tight. Also wouldn't you be interested if there was a significant cost saving to be had?

Q Plastic packaging of different sorts does it all have to be separated? (eg polythene and polyetholin etc)

A There are basically only two types of film packaging, polypropylene and polythene (polyethylene is the same as polythene) and if there is a lot of both, then it would be best to bale them separately. (generally optimum purity equals optimum financial return) However, it wouldn't matter unduly if a small amount of PP was mixed with LDPE film (Low Density Polyethylene). A bigger problem is contamination from paper labels and would affect the price drastically. Different coloured polymers can also be mixed as most recycled film is turned to black by adding masterbatch (pigment), but the best price is paid for good, clean, uncontaminated clear polythene.

Q Can you give me an instant quote over the phone? How much do you charge for a 16yard skip?

A Sorry, we can't really give a quote for a service over the phone. That's because we're not really about providing a like for like waste management service. What ACM prefer to do is work with our clients to cut their costs through recycling or compaction. We find we can offer a much better service and make greater cost savings for our clients by visiting the site in person first. However if you know what type of compaction unit or baler you want - then we can easily quote you - just drop us a line - green@acmplc.com

Q My cardboard waste is contaminated with sellotape; can this still be recycled?

A Yes due to our comprehensive network of re-processors we can find a viable destination for almost any recyclable.

Q Can we deal with paint waste?

A Yes - ACM can deal with any waste. Please view our Complete Care Programme - or contact us to discuss your needs.

Q We only deal with Companies within a certain radius to ourselves?

A Fine, one of the benefits of ACM's Complete Care Programme is that we will provide all the equipment you require and oversee the service, but the waste collections would be provided by a company local to you. ACM has agreements in place and work with ALL the major companies in the UK e.g. BIFFA, Grundons, Sita, Onyx, etc. as well as a huge number of smaller local waste haulage and recycling collection firms. All of these are fully approved and registered waste carriers.

Q Can you offer a fixed rate cost for bin removal?

A Yes. We can even offer a fixed cost per year to cover all necessary equipment, waste disposal and recycling services.

Q Do you provide glass collection? if so then what is the cost?

A Yes, we can arrange glass collections and they are often free of charge. We can also supply glass compaction and crushing equipment to minimise the number of bins and collections you need.

Q I need a specific size container for my compactor to fit on site, what can you do?

A With over 2000 different machines to choose from, we can normally find the right one. If not then ACM are able to offer a complete design service to ensure that you have the right machine to do the job.

Q Where are you based and are you a nationwide Company?

A H/Q is Enfield, London but we have regional sales + service centres all over the UK and we do offer nationwide service and do have advantageous packages + pricing for national accounts, including companies such as Whitbread, Safeways, NHS Trusts etc.

Q Are you bigger than Cleanaway?

A No, but then we are a different sort of company to Cleanaway. Cleanaway employ a large number of people to man their fleet of collection vehicles across the UK. ACM supply high performance compaction and recycling equipment to reduce our customers costs and we then use companies like Cleanaway to provide a collection service. Also, ACM have agreements in place and work with ALL the major collection companies in the UK e.g. BIFFA, Grundons, Sita, Onyx, etc. we also use 'local' waste hauliers where a better service can be provided. All our sub-contractors are fully approved waste carriers.
