West Ham United FC - keeping it clean, on and off the pitch

Problem
West Ham Football Club accommodates and caters for up to 35,000 fans at their Boleyn Ground Stadium in London. The sheer volume of waste - much of it food waste - presents the club with real health and hygiene issues, as well as a general litter problem that blights the ground, nearby hotel and conference facilities after every home game.
There is strict legislation covering the handling and disposal of food waste. With increasing compliance and environmental concerns, West Ham FC needed a food and municipal waste management strategy that would improve hygiene, increase levels of cleanliness and ensure they were fully compliant with the latest legislation on waste and food waste.
Solution
ACM’s waste management strategy for West Ham involved the installation of Portable Waste Compactors at the ground. Guaranteed 100% leak and odour-proof and with compaction rates of 6:1, this immediately reduced the number of waste collections required, which in turn improved the environmental performance of the club. In addition, our Compactors make waste far less prone to spillage and vermin, raising hygiene levels and improving general cleanliness around the ground.
A unique part of ACM’s corporate waste management is our colour matching service. West Ham’s Compactor was delivered in the team’s famous claret and blue livery - a finishing touch that was appreciated by everyone connected with the club.
Results
ACM’s waste and food waste management strategy for West Ham resulted in vastly improved cleanliness and hygiene levels in and around the club ground, whilst reducing their overall waste management costs by up to 40%.
A good result, by anyone’s standards!
