Who are Premier Modular?

Premier Modular is one of the leading and longest-established offsite specialists in the UK. It provides temporary modular buildings and permanent bespoke offsite solutions to fulfil almost any application, site and design. It has manufactured building solutions for more than 60 years from its operations in East Yorkshire and employs around 250 staff. The business offers a full range of design, offsite manufacturing, fitting out and construction services to contractors and clients, delivering high quality, affordable and sustainable buildings in the education, commercial, industrial, construction welfare, healthcare, and residential sectors.

The challenge

As part of its commitments to sustainable manufacturing and zero waste for landfill, Premier Modular was looking for new ways of improving waste management. This waste is predominantly plasterboard, wood, general waste, polythene and cardboard generated and was bulky and difficult to manage. The company already used roll packers, balers and compactors but decided that the time would be right to engage in brand new waste handling equipment to further improve efficiency. Premier also wanted to find a more innovative way of reducing waste at source and to cut general waste costs as well as generate revenue from its recycling. The challenge for ACM was to provide machinery that could excel at ensuring that waste was taken away in the optimum format.

The solution

Premier wanted machines that would be cost effective and challenged ACM to ensure that the new equipment would provide a solution that would help them long term with their waste management requirements. Premier invested in 2 of ACM’s VS250 Balers, an ACM Roll Packer and a 3R25HD Static compactor, which were then designed to ensure that they fitted with the operational needs of the client. In the case of the compactor, ACM designed a bespoke hopper meaning that the way Premier moves their waste around site could be dovetailed with the way the machine is loaded. All machines were included in the cost of the waste management agreement and have service and maintenance contracts to ensure the equipment is performing at optimal standards for the client.

The results

The baled waste is compact, easy to handle and convenient to store which means Premier Modular are now able
to store more baled waste making waste handling for recycling more efficient, controlled and manageable. The compactor cuts the number of collections required on site which further minimises impact on the environment, whilst generating operational savings by being able to be loaded in a way that reduces operational time spent tipping waste. The roll packer ensures that the wood skips are full when collected, optimising costs and further reducing vehicle movements to and from the Premier site.
